The best value flower on a Westchester menu is smalls and 7 gram jars from growers who also sell premium eighths. Same rooms, same cure, same genetics, smaller buds. You pay less because bud size drives price on a dispensary menu more than quality does.
Cheap and good are not the same shelf. Flower discounted because it sat for eight months is cheap for a bad reason and you will taste it. Flower priced low because the buds came off the lower branches is cheap for a good one. This page is about telling those apart at our counters in Yonkers and Spring Valley, and how to clear the delivery minimum without wasting money.
What to know up front
- Smalls are the same flower as the eighth above them on the shelf, sorted by size. Growers sell them cheaper because large buds command a premium.
- A 7 gram jar almost always costs less per gram than two separate eighths of the same brand.
- Toke’s delivery minimum is $75 and delivery is free over $150, so a value jar is the cheapest way to push a cart past either line.
- Veterans get 15 percent off with one-time proof (a DD-214 or VA ID), NYS medical cardholders get 10 percent, and a first-order welcome discount is applied at checkout with no code.
- Both Toke stores carry value flower: 471 McLean Ave in Yonkers, open daily 10:00 AM to 10:30 PM, and 2 S Central Ave in Spring Valley, open daily 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
What are smalls, and is the flower actually worse?
Smalls are the small buds from a harvest, from lower on the plant where they got less light, plus whatever fell through the sort. Some brands call them popcorn buds. They come from the same plants and the same cure as that brand’s top shelf jars.
What you give up is bag appeal. The buds are less dense and look less impressive in the jar, and potency sometimes runs slightly behind the premium jar from the same batch.
What you keep is the terpene profile and the cure, which is most of what decides whether flower is pleasant to smoke. If you are grinding it anyway, bud size is not doing anything for you.
Why does a 7 gram jar beat two eighths?
Packaging and labor. New York requires every unit to be packaged, labeled, and tracked, and that cost is the same whether the jar holds 3.5 grams or 7. Growers pass the savings through on the bigger unit.
The tradeoff is freshness. A 7 gram jar you open in week one and finish in week six loses aromatics the whole way. If you smoke a few times a month, two eighths bought a month apart taste better than one 7 gram jar stretched across six.
What do you actually give up buying value flower?
Consistency. Value tier jars vary more batch to batch than a brand’s flagship line, so the jar you loved in August may not be the same in October.
Appearance. If part of what you enjoy is opening a jar of dense, frosted buds, smalls will disappoint you and no savings fixes that. Trim quality slips too, since cheaper flower is more often machine trimmed, which knocks trichomes (the resin glands on the surface) loose and leaves more leaf in the jar.
What you keep is the smell, and smell is the best predictor of whether you will enjoy a jar. That is why we push shoppers toward terpene content over the number on the label, which we get into in our post on what a THC percentage actually means.
Which brands are worth buying in the value tier?
So Dope is a brand our team reaches for and it moves quickly at both stores. Dolla Treez, MiniMART, Ripped, Anthem, and 5 Boro come up in the value conversation on our shelves, and Papa’s Herb and Back Home Cannabis are worth asking about for a New York grown jar without the top shelf price.
Which of those has smalls or a 7 gram jar in stock changes week to week, and the Yonkers floor and the Spring Valley floor rarely match, so ask a budtender what came in. The full rundown is in our guide to the flower brands we stock in Westchester.
The best value in any dispensary often comes from premium brands selling their smalls rather than budget brands selling their flagship, so ask whether the top shelf names have a smalls format on the floor.
How do you tell cheap flower from old flower?
Check the pack date before anything else. That date, not the price, usually explains a disappointing jar.
Smell it. Value flower that was cured properly still smells like something through the lid. Flower that smells faintly of hay has lost its aromatics, and a discount does not bring them back. Squeeze a bud too: it should give and spring back, and dust at the bottom means it dried out.
We stock a narrower menu than most shops so this comes up less, which is the argument in our post on how we shop at Toke and why we do not carry everything.
How do you build a $75 delivery order without wasting money?
Start with the flower you actually want, then fill the gap with things you will use anyway. Pre-rolls are the best filler in the store, since a couple of singles cost little, and our guide to the best pre rolls in Westchester covers which ones burn clean. Papers and a grinder are the other easy adds, since they do not expire and everybody runs out.
If you are close to $150, do the math before you check out. Free delivery over that line often makes the larger order cheaper in total than the smaller one plus the fee. Two 7 gram jars and a few pre-rolls gets most carts there.
Check what is running first. Recurring specials are on our weed deals page for Yonkers and Spring Valley, and weekly drops and happy-hour pricing get posted on Instagram @nytokes.
Is a discount on premium flower better than buying the value tier?
Frequently, yes. A deeply discounted premium jar can land at or below a value jar’s regular price, and you get the better trim and the tighter cure with it.
The catch is timing. Discounts on top shelf flower mean a batch is aging out, which is fine if you will smoke it in two weeks and less fine if you are stocking up. The rule we give at the counter: discounted premium for two weeks, value tier for the month.
When is value flower the wrong call?
When you are buying a gift, since smalls do not present well. When you want a specific cultivar, since value tier stock rotates by whatever is available.
When you are new to cannabis. Spend a little more on one well-cured jar with a budtender’s help, learn what a good jar smells like, then shop the value shelf.
Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest way to buy weed in Westchester? Smalls, popcorn buds, and 7 gram or larger jars give you the lowest cost per gram at a licensed dispensary. Stacking a standing discount on top helps, since veterans get 15 percent off with one-time proof and NYS medical cardholders get 10 percent at Toke in Yonkers and Spring Valley.
Are smalls lower quality than regular flower? Not usually. Smalls are the smaller buds from the same plants and the same cure, sorted out because large buds sell for more. You give up appearance and sometimes a little potency, and the terpene profile and the smoke are the same as the brand’s larger jars.
Does cheap flower have less THC? Sometimes slightly, and it matters less than people assume. Price on a dispensary menu tracks bud size, brand, and trim quality more closely than potency, and a well-cured value jar routinely outperforms an expensive jar that was dried too fast.
Is there a delivery minimum at Toke? Yes. Delivery starts at a $75 minimum, same day from both stores, and free delivery over $150 applies on the Yonkers and Spring Valley side. Zones, timing, and ID requirements are covered on our page about weed delivery in Yonkers and Westchester, and Rockland orders run out of the Spring Valley store.
Which towns does the cheap flower actually reach? Westchester deliveries run out of Yonkers and cover Mount Vernon, Bronxville, Scarsdale, New Rochelle, and the rest of the lower county. Rockland deliveries run out of Spring Valley and cover Monsey, Nanuet, Nyack, and the towns along Route 59. Your fee is confirmed in the cart before checkout.
Can I mix products to hit the delivery minimum? Yes. The minimum is on the cart total, not any one item, so most people add pre-rolls, papers, or an edible to a flower order. New York’s daily limit is 3 ounces of flower or 24 grams of concentrate per person.

Open daily 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM, 845-406-3004. Current stock is on the Yonkers menu and the Spring Valley menu.
Delivery runs same day from both stores, $75 minimum, cash or debit at the door, with your fee confirmed at checkout. Rockland towns including Nanuet are covered from Spring Valley, with details on the Nanuet delivery page. You need to be 21 with a valid photo ID and you have to be there to accept the order. Both stores are listed in the state’s licensed dispensary verification tool, and the adult-use rules are published by the Office of Cannabis Management.
